A Recipe Holder: Apples
|
|
We missed having our friends, Larry and Bobbie, at our Thanksgiving dinner. Before their daughter, Loreen, took her leave, she handed me a tiny box.
In it was a tiny ceramic piece carefully wrapped in tissue: 2 apples with a slit down the middle. A recipe holder. A delicate little thing. Loreen said her mom (Bobbie) saw it and it reminded her of our Big Bear kitchen, which is decorated in apples.
Last weekend, I looked for a place where something so wee and fragile would be safe. I placed it on the window sill -- out of harm's way -- above the kitchen sink, where it joined the company of other resident apples. The tiny pair of apples will remind me of a very special Christmas that our extended 'ohana spent up in Big Bear a few years ago, when Bobbie and Larry joined us.
I miss them and will cherish our memories together. It will also remind me that love is a delicate thing.
